1.  How can P2P file-sharing networks make money if they do not sell music?

2. Into which category or categories of e-commerce do P2P file-sharing networks fall?

3. What social issues are raised by P2P file-sharing protocols and programs such as BitTorrent? Is the record industry justified in attempting to shut them down? Why or why not?

4. Will the Supreme Court’s decision inhibit the development of P2P technology or the Internet itself, as proponents of P2P services have claimed?

5. Why do people older than 21 tend to use legitimate downloading sites whereas younger people tend to use illegal sites?

6. What difference would it make if the existing music labels disappeared for lack of revenue? What legitimate function do the music labels perform in the creation and distribution of original music?

  • 1. Select an e-commerce company. Visit its Web site and describe its business model based on the information you find there. Identify its customer value proposition, its revenue model, the marketspace it operates in, who its main competitors are, any comparative advantages you believe the company possesses and what its market strategy appears to be. Also try to locate information about the company’s management team and organizational structure. (Check for a page labeled “the Company,” “About Us,” or something similar).
  • 2. Examine the experience of shopping on the Web versus shopping in a traditional manner. Imagine that you have decided to purchase a digital camera (or any other item of your choosing). First shop for the camera in a traditional manner. Describe how you would do so (for example, how you would gather the necessary information you would need to choose a particular item, what stores you would visit, how long it would take, prices, etc.) Next, shop for the item on the Web. Compare and contrast your experiences. What were the advantages and disadvantages of each? Which did you prefer and why?

Create a draft outline for your Teams Online Strategy including the description of market, customer value proposition and competitive advantages as well as the Market Opportunity for your company and who you think your Competition is. From Chapter 5 & 6 – discuss the pros and cons of various payment systems and determine which ones will be used in your business and why you have chosen these? Chapter 7 & 8 – by showing your understanding of how consumers behave online, describe the basic marketing concepts you may need to use, describe the main technologies that support online marketing. Think of your site in terms of Market Research, one-to-one marketing, viral marketing, and affiliate marketing. What e-commerce marketing and branding strategies will you use and how will you conduct your online market research?Put this assignment on your Wiki with group names.
