personal and professional lives. Topics include measures of central tendency
and dispersion, probability spaces, probability distributions of both discrete
and continuos random variables, sampling distributions, estimation theory,
and linear regression.

Simple Linear Regression
Measures of Regression and Prediction Intervals
***EXAM #3 – COMPREHENSIVE FINAL EXAM ***
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Your grade for this course will be based on the following:
MAKE-UP EXAMS:
Make-up exams are not allowed! If a student is absent on one
scheduled in-class-exam day, the final exam grade will be doubled. If a
student is absent on more than one scheduled in-class exam day,
the missed exam(s) will be calculated as a zero (0) toward the final average.
According to JWU policy, all students must take the final exam on the scheduled
final exam day.
CLASS PROJECT:
A class project on the Internet will be discussed and assigned in class during Week #4. The project is due anytime during Week #9 and must follow the following format:
-standard 8.5 x 11.0 inch paper
-word processed, 12 pitch, standard font, and double spaced
-one inch margins on all sides
-student name, class section and page number in upper right corner of EACH page
-stapled in upper left hand corner (Note: Do not enclose in folders or binders!)
Each student will be a member of a four-person group for this project!
ATTENDANCE & CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR POLICY:
A maximum of five (5) absences will be allowed; 6th absence = W.
NOTE: There are no excused absences.
Attendance is taken each day during the first five minutes of class. Students will not be allowed to enter the class more than ten minutes after the start of class. Note: Excessive tardiness (less than 10 minutes late) may also result in an absence.
Departure from class, without prior approval, before the class is dismissed will be counted as an absence.
Students interrupting the teaching/learning process of the class by displaying inappropriate activity (such as sleeping; reading a newspaper or other unrelated material; talking while I am, or anyone else is, talking; or, any rude and/or immature behavior) will be asked to leave the room immediately. This will result in an absence for the day. This person must see me during office hours within two class days to be considered for re-admission, else that person will be dropped from class with a punitive grade of "W".
Students are expected to be prepared for class each day by having their
math textbook, notebook, homework, pencil and/or pen. Students are also
responsible for bringing in a #2 pencil and scratch paper when exam answers
are to marked on scantron forms.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPTION:
A community service option is offered for this class. If opted, the
community service will be in lieu of the class project described above.
More details on volunteering will be provided during the first week of
class.
REQUIRED TEXTS:
(1) Elementary Statistics: Picturing the World, Ron Larson & Betsy Farber; Prentice Hall, Inc., Copyright 2000.
(2) Student Guide for Elementary Statistics, Joyce Oster; Pearson
Custom Publishing, Copyright 2000.
RECOMMENDED:
A graphing calculator is STRONGLY recommended. The TI-83 will
be used for instruction.
OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT:
Johnson and Wales University is committed to the Outcomes Assessment
initiative. All faculty and students are, therefore, part of an on-going
study to determine and refine the effectiveness of instruction and learning.
Names of individual students will not be used when reporting results.
If students require note-taking, test-taking, or any other accommodation,
they are required to see their instructor.
